It really is one of those places that never gets old, no matter how many times I visit. So when Sam’s sister got in touch with me all the way from the US to tell me about their plans, I couldn’t wait to hear more.

From the very beginning, Izzy and Sam knew they wanted their wedding photographs to feel natural and true to life. They had planned a day full of gorgeous bright colours and wanted a photographer whose editing style would show them exactly as they remembered them. That was the perfect fit for me because I’ve always believed your wedding gallery should reflect how your day actually looked. Couples spend months choosing the colours of their flowers, bridesmaid dresses and styling, so why would they want them looking completely different in their photographs? My editing is always true to life, allowing those colours and moments to shine exactly as they did on the day.

A Beautiful Wedding Day at Notley Abbey

Their wedding at Notley Abbey was filled with so much love, laughter and genuine emotion from start to finish. Set amongst the beautiful Buckinghamshire countryside, the venue creates such an incredible backdrop for wedding photography, but it’s the atmosphere of the day that really makes every gallery special.

One of my favourite things about arriving at Notley Abbey is the drive up to the venue. As you make your way through the long tree-lined driveway, the trees almost hide what’s waiting ahead. Then suddenly the Abbey appears, and it never fails to make an impression. You’re instantly taken back in time by the stunning historic building, and before you’ve even stepped inside, you’re greeted by the beautiful lavender-lined pathway leading to the front entrance.

Every single time I photograph a wedding here, I end up using this spot. It’s easily one of my favourite locations for couple portraits. The lavender adds so much softness and colour, while the Abbey creates such an elegant backdrop. If we turn away from the building, the trees and gardens create another completely different setting, making it perfect for relaxed family photographs and natural group shots too.

Photographing Real Moments Throughout the Day

As a Notley Abbey wedding photographer, one of the things I love most is that every wedding feels completely different, even though the venue stays the same. Every couple brings their own personalities, their own family traditions and their own story, and that’s what makes every gallery unique.

Sam is originally from America, so many of his family had travelled across the Atlantic to celebrate with them. It was lovely hearing everyone’s stories throughout the day and seeing two families come together. Everyone made me feel so welcome, and I was completely in my comfort zone chatting to guests about where they’d travelled from and how weddings are celebrated in different countries.

This is honestly one of my favourite parts of being a wedding photographer. Every wedding introduces me to new people, different traditions and stories I’d never have heard otherwise. No two weddings are ever the same, and that’s exactly why I still love photographing them years later.

Rather than spending the day directing every moment, I prefer to let things unfold naturally. Some of my favourite photographs are the ones nobody even realises I’m taking. The hugs between family members, the laughter during speeches, the little glances between the couple when they think nobody is watching. Those are always the photographs that mean the most years later.

Timeless Style That Let Every Detail Shine

The styling for Izzy and Sam’s wedding suited Notley Abbey perfectly. Sam and his groomsmen looked incredibly smart in classic black tuxedos, while Izzy looked absolutely stunning in a simple, elegant wedding dress that suited her perfectly.

Everything felt timeless. Nothing was overdone, and every detail worked beautifully together. Their colourful flowers added just the right amount of colour against the neutral tones of the Abbey, making every photograph feel bright without losing that elegant feel they had envisioned from the beginning.

This is another reason I love photographing weddings at Notley Abbey. The venue works with almost every style of wedding. Whether you’re planning something colourful like Izzy and Sam or something softer and more neutral, the historic stonework, gardens and surrounding countryside complement everything beautifully.

Natural Wedding Photography at Notley Abbey

Throughout the day, we made the most of everything Notley Abbey has to offer without ever taking the couple away from their guests for too long. That’s something that’s really important to me. I never want couples to feel like they’ve spent hours posing for photographs instead of enjoying their wedding day. We kept their portraits relaxed and natural, making the most of the lavender, the tree-lined driveway and the beautiful grounds, before heading back to the celebrations. The rest of the day was all about documenting what was happening naturally. The emotional ceremony, the confetti, hugs with family, speeches that had everyone laughing one minute and wiping away tears the next, and then a packed dance floor as everyone celebrated together. Those are the moments that tell the real story of a wedding day, and they’re always the photographs I love delivering the most.

Ending the Day at Notley Abbey

As the sun began to set over Notley Abbey, the celebrations carried on with heartfelt speeches, incredible food and plenty of dancing. The candlelit reception created such a warm atmosphere, and everywhere you looked there were guests laughing, chatting and making memories together. Looking back through their gallery afterwards, it wasn’t just the beautiful setting that stood out. It was the people. The emotions. The excitement. The little moments between family members that could so easily have been missed.

That’s exactly what I aim to capture at every wedding I photograph. Being a Notley Abbey wedding photographer is always such a pleasure because the venue gives you so many beautiful locations, but it’s never just about the building itself. It’s about the people celebrating there and creating memories they’ll look back on for years to come.

Izzy and Sam’s wedding was the perfect reminder of that. Family and friends travelled from different parts of the world to celebrate together, and every part of the day felt full of genuine love and happiness. It was an absolute privilege to capture it all, and it’s definitely a wedding I’ll remember for a very long time.
