When I shoot a wedding, I want you to remember how the day felt, not just what it looked like. That was the main goal for this wedding shoot at Botleys Mansion, a stunning exclusive use wedding venue in Surrey. Inspired by the romantic, colourful vibe of Bridgerton, an amazing team of wedding suppliers came together to create something timeless and full of life. Just 30 minutes from London, this Palladian mansion feels like a world away from the city. My Approach As A Wedding Photographer
As a photographer, my goal is never to drag couples away from their party or spend hours on stiff, awkward poses. I prefer to let the day happen naturally, stepping in with a bit of quick direction when needed. Even though this was a styled shoot with our wonderful couple, Charlotte and Taylor, I shot it the exact same way I would a real wedding day. I focused on movement, real interaction, and keeping everything looking effortless. That’s why I love luxury venue shoots like this. Botleys Mansion has gorgeous spots everywhere you turn, which means we can get natural, relaxed portraits without spending half the day hunting for a backdrop.
Bringing The Bridgerton Inspiration To Life
We wanted the Bridgerton inspiration to feel fresh and modern, not like a costume party. We went for romantic, flowing dresses from Your Story Bridal, soft curls styled by Chantelle Smith, glowing makeup by Emma Dale Beauty, and elegant table setups designed by Ambience Kingston Upon Thames that felt high-end without being stuffy. The flowers by CK Wedding Flowers completely transformed the space. Deep pinks, peaches, lilacs, and soft creams brought tons of texture and life to the pictures. Good florals are a photographer's dream, they naturally frame a portrait and add a pop of colour without overpowering the couple.
Using The Space And Light
One of the main things I keep an eye out for at Botleys Mansion is good light. Light changes the whole mood of a photo, so I move around the venue throughout the day to catch the best spots as the light shifts. Botleys Mansion gives you so many spaces to work with. There's the classical elegance of the Green Room on the piano noble, the house's raised ground floor, which is ideal for intimate ceremonies or dinners for up to 131 guests. Then you have the light-filled Atrium, a massive orangery space that can seat up to 360 guests and host 500 for an evening reception. Outside, the Mansion Lawn is now licensed for ceremonies, which gives you amazing outdoor options too.
While the architecture and sweeping grand staircases are stunning, I always use the venue to support you, not steal the show. When you open your wedding album, I want you to see yourself, your family, and your memories first, with the mansion just setting the scene.
Working With Top-Tier Suppliers
Shoots like this are a great reminder of how talented wedding suppliers are. From custom stationery by Simply Laura Calligraphy and an incredible cake by Louise Cannon Cakes, to the hair, makeup, and couture dresses, everyone brought their A-game. My job as the photographer is to tie all those pieces together into one solid set of images. That means catching the tiny details people might miss, while also stepping back to capture the bigger picture.
