When an American couple from Texas books you as their wedding photographer at Leeds Castle in Kent, you know it’s going to be a special day. Driving up through the estate, catching that first view of the castle sitting right on the water in the middle of the Kentish countryside, it's easy to see why couples travel across the globe to get married here. When Eryn and Cody flew in from the US for their wedding, I couldn’t wait to shoot it for them. Bringing together family and friends from across the Atlantic, the whole day was packed with energy, laughter, and great moments. It was the perfect blend of American warmth and a classic English castle backdrop.
A Texas Love Story in the Heart of Kent
Eryn and Cody wanted an iconic English venue for their big day. Destination weddings always have such a great atmosphere. Because everyone has traveled so far to be there, the excitement is high right from the start. People are relaxed, catching up, and taking in the trip. One of my favorite parts of shooting weddings is meeting guests from all over the world, and Eryn and Cody’s crowd made everyone feel like family instantly. Plenty of guests even turned the trip into a proper UK holiday, making time to explore nearby spots like Canterbury, Rochester, and the surrounding Kent villages while they were over.

Why I Love Shooting Weddings at Leeds Castle
Leeds Castle has been hostess to royalty, nobility, and glamorous guests for over 900 years, and you feel that incredible history as soon as you arrive on site. Located near Maidstone in Kent, it sits in the middle of huge parklands, gardens, and its famous moat.
As a Leeds Castle wedding photographer, the best part about this venue is the sheer variety. Whether a couple chooses a wedding in the main Castle, the historic Maiden’s Tower, or the rustic Fairfax Barn, you can get totally different looks for your gallery without ever having to leave the grounds. Beyond the main buildings, you've got stone courtyards, winding pathways, quiet gardens, and views over the lake. Everything looks timeless, meaning you don't have to force poses to get incredible shots.
Bridal Prep Inside the Castle
Eryn looked incredible in a timeless A-line dress that fit the venue perfectly. It was elegant, easy to move in, and looked great as she walked through the historic halls.
The bridal suite at Leeds Castle is easily one of my favourite prep spaces to photograph. The huge windows let in tons of soft natural light, making it ideal for capturing those quiet moments while everyone gets ready. Her bridesmaids wore soft pink dresses in slightly different styles, which looked great together in photos.
The Groom’s Morning
Meanwhile, Cody was getting ready with his groomsmen nearby. He went with a sharp black tuxedo paired with a patterned bow tie, adding a bit of personal style to a classic look.
Groom prep is always a good time to capture candid, relaxed moments, from guys struggling with cufflinks and bow ties to plenty of jokes before the ceremony gets underway.
A Personal Ceremony
One of the best touches of Eryn and Cody’s day was having a close friend officiate their ceremony instead of a traditional celebrant. It made the service completely personal and full of genuine laughter and emotion. My focus during the ceremony is always on capturing those real reactions: glances between the couple, parents wiping away tears, and guests cracking up. Those are the photos that bring you straight back to how the day actually felt.
Couple Portraits Around Leeds Castle
Once the ceremony was over, we headed outside into the grounds for portraits. Leeds Castle gives you so many iconic spots to choose from, but my main focus is always keeping things relaxed and moving quickly so you can get right back to celebrating with your guests.
We took a gentle walk across the ancient drawbridge and around the edge of the moat, stopping for shots with the castle reflected in the water. We strolled through the colorful, English-cottage style blooms in the Culpeper Garden, before heading down toward the Pavilion Lawn for sweeping views across the estate. Rather than stiff posing, I always encourage couples to just walk, laugh, and catch up with each other, which keeps the photos looking real, natural, and effortless.

Every venue photographs differently, and Leeds Castle is one that offers something beautiful in every season. The gardens are stunning throughout the year, the castle provides an incredible backdrop from almost every angle and there are so many locations if the weather changes. Whether we’re photographing inside the castle or outside overlooking the lake, there’s always somewhere beautiful to create timeless photographs. It’s also one of those venues where the history adds so much character without feeling dark or formal. It still feels warm, welcoming and full of life, which is exactly how wedding photography should feel.

One of the best things about Leeds Castle is that it works brilliantly in every season. Whether we’re shooting outside overlooking the lake on a summer afternoon, utilizing spaces like the Maiden's Tower, or using the grand interiors on a cooler day, there’s always a stunning backdrop that adds character to your gallery without feeling dark or overly formal.
Looking back through Eryn and Cody’s gallery, what stands out most isn't just the historic castle in the background. It’s the genuine emotion in the room: the huge hugs after the ceremony, the crowd having the time of their lives, and friends traveling halfway across the world to celebrate together. Those unscripted, honest moments are what matter most in a wedding gallery, and they’re the photos that become even more valuable as time goes on.
