A Royal Crescent Hotel Wedding in Bath
Bath is one of my favourite places in the South of England, so being asked to photograph Olivia and Rhys’ wedding at The Royal Crescent Hotel was an absolute privilege. I’ve visited a number of times for personal breaks, but not officially as a wedding photographer. So you can imagine how excited I was on the way to Bath. Thinking about all the romantic TV shows that have been filmed there, including the popular Bridgerton, I was already taking inspiration from them and thinking about how I could bring some of that romance into my portraits.
I arrived at the Royal Crescent and was immediately stunned by the architecture of the buildings. I scouted out the best locations for the couple portraits and was spoilt by the amount of backdrops I could use. Walking through the hotel I peeked into grand luxury rooms with historic features, thinking of all the photographs I would take. The best bit… the lavender that lined the paths through the immaculate gardens. This soon became my favourite spot.
Olivia and Rhys’ wedding day was elegant and thoughtful, matching the wedding venue perfectly.
The Beauty of The Royal Crescent
The room in which Olivia and Rhys chose for their intimate wedding ceremony had a gorgeous fireplace which balanced the space perfectly and the spectacular chandelier made the main feature. The use of neutral colours and light coming in from the tall windows made photographing the vows incredibly easy. Olivia looked stunning as she walked down the aisle, framed by her lace veil and accompanied by her Dad.
The drinks reception took place outside in a private space in the courtyard. I chose to photograph the group portraits in front of the spa which boasted tall decorative columns. I then mixed it up a little and photographed from the other side as I could then capture some of the gardens and use them as another backdrop.
Wedding Portraits in Bath
One of the main reasons couples choose this wedding venue is for the iconic crescent backdrop for couple photos. As a Royal Crescent Hotel Wedding Photographer this was the shot I couldn’t wait to take. I took Olivia and Rhys out to the private garden which is only accessible for residents. This is great for couples as it can get very busy with tourists in the area, so having a private space for photos is a big plus, especially if you are a bit shy in front of people.
We took a little walk up and down the hill stopping for some romantic gestures on the way. After all this is Bath and if you can’t be romantic here then where can you be. The cobbled streets added character and the light stone bounced the light which caused no harsh shadows.
Photographing a Wedding at The Royal Crescent Hotel
Photographing Olivia and Rhys’ wedding at The Royal Crescent Hotel was such a lovely experience. It’s the kind of luxury hotel that gives you so much to work with as a photographer. Every room has its own feel, with refined details and lots of character with unique grand features. There was always a picturesque background wherever you were in the hotel and the grounds.
What I loved about the hotel was how private it was even in the most popular location of Bath. Olivia and Rhys chose an intimate wedding surrounded by their closest friends and family. Even though it was a smaller wedding there was plenty to photograph. From the details to the emotional family connections everything was just perfect and personal, just how a wedding should be. Then there was the Royal Crescent itself. Being able to step outside and have that famous Bath architecture right on the doorstep made their portraits even more special. It gave us a mix of beautiful hotel photographs and images which embraced the stunning surroundings of Bath. For me, that is what makes the Royal Crescent Hotel such a great place for a wedding. You have the luxuriousness of the hotel, but you also have the whole of Bath just outside the door.
